What subject do you teach?
Science.

How long have you been with CDA?
Since 2011.

Why did you go into teaching?
My interest in science was sparked when I was a student at the Cincinnati Academy of Math and Science at Woodward High School. After graduating from Wilberforce University, I started working as a chemist. While working at Sun Chemical, I was selected to be a YMCA Black Achiever. Through this program, I mentored teens. I also participated in career day at Jacob Middle School with Arlene Hampton. I enjoyed interacting with the students, and this sparked my interest in teaching.

Why did you join the teaching staff at CDA?
I was selected to help start the program.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at CDA?
Online collaboration is rewarding. I work with a diverse range of grade levels, which prompts me to always refine my content area. I enjoy the direct family involvement as well as personalizing learning for my students. This job also keeps me abreast of the 21st century skillset.

What is the CDA difference?
We are local and accessible. CDA offers a standards-based curriculum, highly qualified teachers, personalized learning and lots of support. Students are also able to participate in extracurricular activities at their neighborhood schools.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the workday?
I am a wife, mother of two and a breast cancer survivor. I am very active in the community. I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I love traveling, watching movies and spending time with my family. My bucket list includes traveling to every state in the U.S. as well as every continent. So far, I have been to 20 states and to Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and I have traveled to Central and South America.
