What: Approximately $1.4 million in college scholarships will be awarded to 12 high school seniors at the 2019 Cincinnati Public Schools’ College Signing Day. Four regional colleges are offering the scholarships specifically to CPS students, based on academic accomplishments and community involvement, said Kayla Ritter Rickels, college manager. The scholarships cover tuition, housing and books, she added.
The four colleges presenting the scholarships include:
- Art Academy of Cincinnati
- Eastern Kentucky University
- Miami University
- Ohio State University
At the College Signing Day, representatives of each college will welcome the students as the newest members of the freshman class at their respective campuses and present them with college attire. The students will then sign their letters of commitment, as members of their family, principals and administrators observe the occasion.
In 2018, Miami University was the first to make the financial commitment to CPS students, awarding five scholarships to members of M.O.R.E. (Men, Organized, Respectful, and Educated.) This year, the university is presenting a total of seven scholarships; three to members of M.O.R.E. and four to members of Girls to Women.
